A close family relative found out just how ill prepared they were when their purse was left at the cinema over the recent holidays. It was not found, and considerable inconvenience and stress followed.

Here are a few simple tasks that might come in handy sometime in your future.

1. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately we realize that our wallet/purse is missing, but the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, store card etc. You will then have a hardcopy of what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place, one that you can get access to remotely.

2. Photocopy your passport and vital documents including your insurance policy. When traveling either here or abroad put the photocopy in a separate bag.

3. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

4. Finally, call the national credit reporting organisation(s) immediately to place a fraud alert on your name. This alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information has been stolen and they therefore have an obligation to contact you personally, by phone to authorise any new credit.

Kevin Lovewell started in business the hard way – as a brickies labourer on construction sites around the Sunshine Coast and South East Queensland. Kevin has journeyed a long way from his hometown of Nambour. He has worked in every state of Australia, held executive roles within international “Fortune 500” companies, and is an independent director on several company boards. Through the journey, Kevin also found time to complete a degree in accountancy and an MBA in Entrepreneurship. Today, he helps small and large business and directs his energies to leading by example.

“I have been a business builder, as well as a builders’ labourer. I am as comfortable in the boardroom, as on the shop floor and for over thirty years now I have been a ‘student’ of business management,” says Kevin from his North Lakes Office.</p

Kevin’s Company,Corporate Solutions (Aust) commences their third year of “Essential Business Management Skills workshops” in April at their offices in North Lakes. These group workshops take place over a twelve week period and cover a wide range of issues that confront people who are new in business. In addition to the weekly workshops, participants get exposure to other businesses, participate in discussion forums and a whole lot more.

Workshops cover management knowledge including start-up, business planning, commercialising inventions, finding customers, how to win against the big companies, business plans, pricing, introduction to bookkeeping and selling skills; a whole menu of practical knowledge.

Kevins’ workbook “How to write a successful business plan” forms the basis of the workshops. This successful guide has even been translated into other languages andis available internationally.

Workshops are Tuesdays and Wednesdays and run in the mornings, lunch-times or the evening, enabling participants to attend at a time that best suits their schedule.

For more information you can call Corporate Solutions at North Lakes on 3204 6422 or register for the workshop at the web site, www.corporate-solutions.com.au.
